Char siu (Chinese BBQ Pork)

Sticky, glossy, sweet-savory slices of Cantonese perfection. Char siu is what happens when pork becomes charismatic.

Ingredients:


  • 2 lbs Pork shoulder roast, boneless

  • 1/8 tsp red food coloring

  • 2 cube fermented red bean curd with liquid

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 2 Tbsp shaoxing wine

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1/4 tsp White pepper

  • 2 Tbsp Hoisin sauce

  • 1 Tbsp Five spice powder

  • 3 Garlic cloves minced 

  • 2 Tbsp Honey


Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix in minced garlic, fermented red bean curd with liquid, mash and everything else above ingredients.

  2. Get a small portion of the mixture and add more honey for basting later.

  3. Add pork into the marinade and sit in the fridge for 24 hours.

  4. Place pork on baking tray with rack and a little water and Bake at 375 for 15 min

  5. Add glaze(honey and red food coloring), and bake again 5 for min for 3 more times

  6. Slice and serve.
